Yes, like when you like inflicting pain or seeing people upset, in pain etc. Not a sadist because thats more to do with sexual perversion of cruel things isn't it?
Sadist/Sadism is not always about sex - it is generally the deprivation of pleasure as a result of the suffering of others. This can be about sex, but it generally only becomes sexual when the masochism part is added.
Someone with a sadistic personality disorder does not solely relate to sexual deviance.
Hate to be pedantical Octavius but masochism is actually gratification through having pain inflicted on oneself, whereas sadism is gratification through inflicting pain on others, and neither necessarily has to be used in a sexual context.
although it's a german word, it has been incorporated into the english language, so other people apart from germans willl know what it means (taking pleasure in someone elses misery or misfortune)
ie like doppleganger - although that is german, people will know what it means cause its now part of the english language
I ignored the point about masochism in itself as the Q refers to inflicting on 'others'.
My point was, that when used together they infer sexual deviance, but may not necessarily be so - I don't understand why you corrected me, pedantic or otherwise but if you hate doing it, I am sure you derived some masochistic pleasure from it! You iniquitous deviant!
Thanks again bednobs. I love the German language. I started A Level German but quit because I was a very silly girl. Wish I'd have done it now. I have taught my 5 year old son the basics, you know the hello, goodbye, my name is, even - I have a green dog/red cat (try and get him interested! LOL)
