Kipling's India book?

Hello all, It's my understanding that Rudyard Kipling wrote something regarding the government, administration and history of British India, which I've been trying to hunt down.

I've scoured Amazon, which needless to say turns up endless results for 'Rudyard Kipling' and I'm beginning to think I may have misread something.

Did I dream it, or did Kipling write such a book? If so, what is it called?

I've read some Kipling but all fiction and poetry, however he lived in Indian for a period and much of his best work is set there, Kim & The Jungle Book for example If you read his work you can get a clear "feeling" of how the Raj was run, but as regards to a anything about the British administration I can't think of any thing specific.The nice thing about this site tho, is that there is almost always somebody who knows the answer so I sure some thing will turn up

Also look out for Kipling Sahib: India and the Making of Rudyard Kipling 1865-1900 by Charles Allen, Kipling's India by Khushwant Singh, Kipling's India by Khushwant Singh, Imperial Subjects, Imperial Space: Rudyard Kipling's Fiction of the Native-Born by John McBratney or
India in the works of Kipling, Forster and Naipaul: Postcolonial revaluations by Purabi Panwar.

Of them the Singh book is the cheapest, you can get it on Amazon for about �3.50, the others cost between �10 and �30 and aren't so readily available.
