Help with Gold frames Please

I have some very old gold picture frames, sprayed a horrid yellowy gold, which I would like to look more fashionable. The walls of the room are off white creamy colour, I have painted the frames white but with the old type of prints inside they look all wrong. The mountboards are a soft tan colour. With pale terra cotta walls they looked OK but now something is wrong ... Can someone help with a colour for the frames please, I don't mind if they look distressed cos I am at the moment ... the photo might not work by the way ... thanks all
