*****SPOILERS****** DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED
What are your opinions on the book? Personally I thought the second half of the book was brilliant. I enjoyed the fast pace start and then there was a bit of a lull but then it picked up and just got better and better till the great ending. I think JK done well and can't wait for the next series of books. What did you think yours-elfs and any critisisms and plot holes?
After the great start, it settled into a long, dull section that rivalled the hanging around in Order of the Phoenix for tedium. Luckily things got better towards the end, though the Christ-like stuff was a bit OTT and (though I guess that as the book is supposed to be for younger readers it can't be helped) the battles lacked any real sense of destruction. The events at the end weren't nearly as cheesy as I had been expecting, and I was quite moved as I finished reading.
On the whole, pretty good; I wish that someone would tell JKR that she needs an editor, though.
I enjoyed the book and was pleased with the ending as I thought all along - she would have to do something like that but didn't really work the way I thought it would. didn't knw how she would end it and I felt the time gap gave good closure to story.
I don't think Dobby needed to die with regards to the story I think it was another case of someone sacrificing themselves to save Harry.
What I wanted to know was how did the Sword get into the sorting hat? I thought that griphook managed to get it back? And also (I was maybe reading too fast for myself at this point) I thought that it sketched over the destruction of the hufflepuff cup?
Dobby had to die so the Goblin has a reason to help Harry get into Gringotts. I thought it was one of the most moving scenes in the story when he dug the grave, muggle stylee.
The best bit for me was definitely getting Harry out of the Dudleys. Cannot wait to see that on the big screen.
"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?"
when Harry faces Voldemort for the final time
'What it comes down to is this..........."
Brilliant!
I loved it! Never saw the snape thing coming!! I lIke snape (bless him) knew he was good, poor dobby and hedwig only deaths im sad about oh and poor Fred!
What next series are you talking about?
mycats
was that in "chamber of secrets" methinks it was a bit lame
SKA
Well I suspect that the last chapter/epilogue could have been an opening left for JK to return to writing about Harrys Kids in many years time. After all harrys kids rons kids and malfoys kids are all there so the ingrediants are there for another series of books.......possibly in 19 years time?
Great. My one disappointment - where was Luna 19 years later? JK didn't tell us, so I like to believe that maybe, just maybe, she married Neville. Ahhhh.
aww i wanted her to marry neville as well! i thought the booik was brilliant, didn't find one bit of it boring! but wasn't very sad over all the deaths, thought the saddest part was when Harry asked his parents "Does it hurt?" I thought that really highlighted the fact that Harry is still really very young and as scared as any 'normal' person would be
Luna married Rolf Scanmander (grandson of Newt) according to JKR.
As for the chamber of secrets how do you think Riddle/Ginny got out? Fawkes might have only carried them because it is quicker, also Ron and Hermione have 5 more books of experience, they must know a spell by down to help them out.
As for the "wand thing" that is explained perfectly well in the book. Draco defeated Dumbledore by disarming him, when Snape killed him the wand already changed allegiance. When Harry got Draco's normal wand he defeated Draco so the wand changed its allegiance to Harry, thus the wand wouldn't work properly against its true master (that's why crucio didn't work properly and Avada Kedavra rebounded on Voldemort)
There will be no "The Next generation", but JKR is working on a new, un-potter related series. There will also be a Harry Potter encyclopaedia released for charity
