don't think he was considered a scientist but Barnes Wallace designed the Wellington Bomber

Yes it was Barnes Wallice the designer of the famous bouncing bomb and also he is reputed to have said when wanting to use a Wellington bomber to test the bomb when asked for a reason to use a Wellington Bomber if you tell them I desinged it that migfht help but not sure how true that quote is
Barnes Wallis designed the geodesic frame used in the Wellington, but it would be a bit wide of the mark to say he was responsible for the bombers design as his frame was primarily intended for airships.
