As it happens, Christies have a Sickert oil painting coming up for auction tomorrow (4 June). It is called "Yvonne" and depicts a partially dressed woman sitting on a bed; it was painted in 1917, and measures 36 x 28 inches.Christies have put an estimate of 20,000 to 30,000 on it, though of course this may not be reached, or may be exceeded.
Sickert is a very well known victorian oil painter and his works can and do command quite high figures ion the art world...He was born in Munich in 1860 and lived to be 82 he studied under Whistler and Degas and lived and worked in Dieppe, France for a while....He also latterly (1990s onwards) has become a suspect in the Jack the Ripper cases which seems to have pushed the interest and prices of his works.

Many of his pieces hang in major galleries like the Tate in London and the Walker gallery in Liverpool.

As to value this hugely depends on the size, quality of painting, subject matter and which period the art is from in the artists range......but I would suggest any major sized piece of good quality would be worth in the region of at least 50,000.

i would say 45,000 to 50,000 but i am no expert!!!!!!!!!!
