Does anyone know the name of a play by Augusta Gregory which features a mother leaving her child alone and coming back to find an old woman playing with it. The old woman turns out to be some sort of mythical woman I think....

I wonder if this is Cathleen ni Houlihan - a one-act play written by W B Yeats in collaboration with Lady Gregory. The story line doesn't sound quite right, but almost certainly the mythical old woman is Kathleen ni Houlihan - often used to represent Ireland.

You're right, it's very similar to Cathleen ni Houlihan - that's what I want to compare it to actually! Can you remember any others?
Question Author
Oops, I didn't say that the play still isn't Cathleen ni Houlihan...

I seem to be talking to myself! But for anyone who's interested, I think the play is 'The Travelling Man'... so actually, maybe less of the old lady!
I'm glad you got what you were looking for, Sanfran....with no help from the rest of us. I'm afraid I'm not at all familiar with The Travelling Man: how clever of you to find it.
