This is just my personal opinion and really has no factual basis from the books. Snape was a death eater because of Lucius. I think he was hesitant about it to begin with and probably never played a big role. Then something happened that made him decide to betray his "friends" I think there was a situation where Snape's wife was killed by the DE or Voldemort and his love for his wife is what turned him to the order. I think it also helps define the bitterness in his character. Dumbledore could know Snape's true intentions with Legimency. Being that Snape wouldn't be trying to hide this truth it would be plain to see. Also, keep in mind that JKR did say in a questionaire session that yes some of the Hogwarts teacher's were married, but that was all she would say, because of the signifigance that this fact plays in the story. I like the fact that it was love, the thing Voldemort hates the most, that turned Snape to the good side.

Please don't tell me to buzz off hermione12, these inane Potter questions call for speculation because as the book hasn't been written yet It can't possibly be answered. Therefore anything that is written is valid because you can't prove me wrong until the book is written. So furtgher to my earlier answer, I believe that not only are Dumbledore and Snape lovers but they are secretely planning to kill Harry by transporting him through a magical Wardrobe into a magicla land. In the next book after , which I believe will be called Harry Potter meets Snoopy, He will battle to the death against a host of cartoon animals. He will ultimately die, but a further two books will be written entitled, Harry Potter, The search for Potter, and Harry Potter It was all a dream after all.

Mrixolite - at last, someone who really understands the motivation of these characters! Of course, you will have been as happy as I when you realised that Fred and George are both gay. They are so likeable anyway,this just made me love them more. I can only look forward to their development in HP6.
