Anyone else disappointed with Oliver Twist?

Maybe Cranford has spoiled us. I was really looking forward to Oliver Twist, but to me it is a sad disappointment. I gave up before the first episode had finished. Can't see what this new version brings?
Have I missed something?

Same here bigsister, I watched half of episode 1 & have dipped in for 5 mins here & there but it didn't get any better...even Tim Spall, who can usually do no wrong in my opinion, couldn't save this one for me. The child actors just don't have any charisma.

Oliver Twist was a BBc production so you can`t expect it o be as good as a film which costs thousands of pounds. I think the beeb did very well myself, I`m looking forward to the last episode.

I think they have commissioned a script that is very very true to the original text, there are long complex scenes that create the elements that move the story along, it is almost soap like, some of the lesser knwon characters from the original serioalisation in the newspaper satories have been well researched and developed, whereas we are used to suspending our disbelief after decades of soap drama, this was a fantastical fairy story set in the Victorian reality, which relies as heavily on coincidence as Jane Eyre did. it is alot darker and deeper, almost gothic, which Dickens reserved for his Bleak House and OCS but i think that is a trend just now,.

I watched the first episode last night and really enjoyed it, much more so than the series with Marc Warren as Monks which I think was on ITV

In my opinion this version of the story is not dark enough.....the life of fagin and the boys does not come over as harsh as it would have been

All in all this is the worst version I have seen, and I have seen many.
