I vaguely remember reading a seriesof books, think it was 3, and it was about a woman who was vice president becoming the American President when the current one dies. Bit vague i know, but any ideas, its driving me mad ????????????

its is kane and abel followed by the prodigal daughter and i can't remember the third one where she becomes president

I was about to say - no it isn't - cos "shall We Tell the President?" came out years before "Kane & Abel" but apparently in later versions of the book JA changed the character from Ted Kennedy to Florentyna Kane
