Is there any account of the Christmas Story that mentions the census that Mary and Joseph were attending? And how long did they stay in Bethlehem?

Yes. Luke chapter 2 states clearly that Augustus issued a decree for a census and that this was the first census when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone had to go to their own town to register. Im a little rusty on the dates, but I think this was 6bc. Luke also states that Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day. Then they went home. They pop up in Jerusalem 33 days after this to consecrate him to god. Interestingly Luke doesnt mention the trip to egypt at all.
