Woot !!! I loved that book, I didn't think it was at all *chick lit*... but I do love science fantasy stuff (never heard of Eric Bana though..)
You may like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series - great stuff, time travel, medicine, history and humanity all wrapped up together in a whole raft of chunky books.
Another interesting writer is Mary Gentle - her book "Ash, A Secret History" has enthralled me for years (I've read it about 5 times now) - history, female mercenary, great battle scenes, magic, time twisting etc etc....

I absolutely LOVED this book and was one of my inspirations to go and work in a library. The ironic thing is that when i was reading the book i was going through my transition from being a nurse to going to uni to do history. Its crazy that this book reminds me of this time in my life and the film will be out just after i graduate!! Its really poignant to me!!
Is it???
I didn't like that book at all, I read a LOT, all different types and that is the first book I have deliberately not finished. I found it to be so slow.
P.S. I Love You is a close second, I didn't enjoy that much, but I did finish it.
I can't say that it was the genre that I didn't like, because that's the genre I read the most.
I hope it does well nontheless though :0)
