Shopping Ideas please for a 23 year old girl.

I am off to New York tomorrow to bring my loved one to England.

I am just off in to town to buy some gifts with an British feel to them for her family.

Her father will be getting a single malt (hard to find in NY) and a whole Stilton.

Her mother is getting a homemade fruit cake, half block of real cheddar, and a London Underground apron (tacky, but these are Americans!!)

Her 15 year old brother is getting an England Rugby shirt and a rugby ball (American Football sucks!)

But what do I get her 23 year old sister.

She lives at the family home. Is single, a bit of a rocker and is studying for a PHD in literature. Quite pretty in a grungy way and not in the least bit girly.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Must have an English (or British) feel to it and not too bulky for the flight.

I was thinking actually of Suedes first album (given her taste) but she has probably heard of it even though they flopped in the states.

Hey thats a great idea or one of those Sex Pistol T-shirts -like the album cover -'Never mind the B ollocks'.
That would go down well with a grungy girl -or a Clash T-Shirt -something that looked really unique but would be recognised in America-regardless of your musical preferences cos they are recognised icons.What about a Bowie one hmm????

I know of a few independent bookshops in Clifton but maybe shut on a Sunday. Would Waterstones or WHSmiths have such knowledge?

Are the "skinny type "tee shirts that good on birds a set size or do I just drop a size??

Good point - usually filled with students who don't know much on weekends! you might get lucky though! I think the T-shirt idea is good too.

Or what about buying a vinal of someone British (Bowie etc...) and framing it?

O just go for small or medium -either way she'll be happy cos sometimes I like a loose T-Shirt -kinda like a 'sloppy joee -see I can be all American lol
I would appreciate something like that -something that her mates wouldnt have but British -then thats just my taste.
Its difficult getting literature for her because you dont know her particular genre -my niece is also doing a degree in Eng it and she is very particular.

Update. Got a skinny top with a a union jack and an old mod scooter on it. AND Graham Green's Brighton Rock in an old leatherette cover.
