Give us a bit more info, such as the topic you are doing at the moment and I am sure there will be plenty of nice peeps here who will give you tips. Good on ya for doing this, its always hard to get back into the lessons thing when we are older. Best of luck. xxx

cheers Mrscheeks, my topics are movement and buildings, haven't chosen third one yet, I've drawn and painted, taken photos and researched (a little) some artists but i'm not sure how to put the whole thing together and what is expected in the finished topics, hope this makes sence.
I know nothing about art but, on a general level, my lecturers (I am a mature law student) always tell us to start with an introduction (in this essay we deal with... and we will show that...). Then you state something (there was a school of thought that held... many artists felt that.. wanted to show that...) and examples (such and such work by this artist shows that he wanted to... believed that... was influenced by...); finally a conclusion (we hope to have shown that...). You never introduce anything new in the conclusion. You can quote an author but you must credit it in the footnote. If you can say something original it gets you extra points (for ex. in the conclusion, something like "this student's conclusion is that..."). Hope the foregoing helps.
As there are many GCSE Art courses available they have different requirements. The WJEC Art GCSE requires students to use sketchbooks as both visual resources (sketches, paintings etc) and evaluating and recording thoughts about your own work and the work of other Artists. This course doesnt require 'essays' as such, but more commenting, evaluting and analysing as you work through both your sketchbook and your folder of work. Your course may have other requirements. Hope this has been some help.
Of course none of this is a problem if you are the son of Prince Charles.
