This is going to make you so MAD!
There are three words in the English language that end in 'gry'. ONE is angry and the other is hungry. EveryONE knows what the third ONE means and what it stands for. EveryONE uses them everyday, and if you listened very carefully, I've given you the third word. What is it? _______gry? Send this to 5 People and the answer will pop up on the screen automatically.
Yeah, but tanial didn't state the riddle correctly. For it to make sense, even as a trick, you have to separate the statement, "There are 3 words in the English language" from any mention of words ending in "gry". The way tanial puts it, you really do have to think of a third word ending in "gry"
Hi there, apologies if this reads wrong as stated by tom braidner but this is how I received the riddle. However, I still don't understand how language is the answer, if it is a trick or play on words could someone explain it Please
Oh dear, not again! Another mishmash of what was a good riddle.
This, for those who are interested, comes from saxy_jag's link and is the way it was originally put:
Think of words ending in GRY. There's angry and hungry. There are only three words in THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. The third word is something which is used by everyone, and if you've listened carefully, I have already told you what it is. What is the third word? (Capitals mine).
I remember when Michael Winner put this in a column he was writing for some paper or other about fifteen years ago. It drove us all mad for a week until he published the answer. At which point he was lucky he didn't get a very stern letter from our employer via the lawyer asking for recompense for all the time we'd been wasting reading dictionaries instead of working (this was pre-every one having internet info at their fingertips at work).
