my very best friend is having a civil ceremony with his partner in October we have been friends for ever and he and his partner have been together for 23years they have asked me to say a few words that's no problem as I'm never short of words but i would love to read a poem i have had a look but nothing seems appropriate i want it to be inspiring not sloppy so any help would be appreciated

I put this sonnet up everytime someone asks this so sorry to be constantly repeating myself but I love it and I think it's fitting.

Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments. Love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove:

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark

That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

It is the star to every wandering bark,

Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks

Within his bending sickle's compass come:

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,

But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,

I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

If you can always be as close
And as happy as today,
Yet be secure enough to grow
And change along the way.

If you can keep for you alone
Your love as man and wife,
Yet find the time to share your joy
With others in your life.

And walk through marriage hand in hand,
Yet still support the goals and dreams
That each of you have planned.

If you can dare to always go
Your separate ways together,
Then all the wonder of today
Will stay with you forever.
