unknown author and book title

About a year ago I lent a book from the library, and really enjoyed it, but for the life of me, I just can't remember the name of it or even the author. It began with this man receiving a phone call from an old friend, and this friend was being tortured. The last thing that was heard on the phone was the guy who was being tortured saying the name and address of the other guy. This prompted him to believe that someone was coming round to get him, and so he had to scarper pretty damn quick. Well that was the start, so if anyone could help me in telling me the name of the book or the author, then I would really appreciate it.

Sounds like something Dean Koontz may have written. Check him out on Amazon, see if anything comes to mind.

"Relentless" by Simon Kernick. That was published a year or so ago and follows the same premise.

S Kernick has another one out now. Sounds rather similar though
