conferance pear with dead worm/magot inside
9 Answers
I just eat the said pear at my desk I bought it yesterday from a well know supermarket. I was looking at my pc at the time it tasted funny but when I looked down at it all I can see is the big worm looking back at me. It looks like i have eaten part of the worms body.
I feel really ill, I have a whole bag of say 15 huge pears at home. I still have the pear as evidence. The worm is like a good few cm's long you cannot miss it, it looks terrible. I have looked at the outside of the pear and there is no evidence of a hole where the worm got in, and there was no hole when I bought them as I checked them all over?
Should I complain and ask for compensation, and should I try to freeze the pear as evidence when I get home?

Unfortunatley this is supposed to be day 1 of a 7 day fruit and veg diet and well its just not looking good is it considering I can't even look at the stuff now without being ill.

Be comforted by the fact that it is very unlikely to have done you any harm at all. The poor creature had lived in the pear from the day the egg was laid, probably by either a wasp or a fruit fly, all it had eaten was pear so it would have been harmless. In fact it was probably more likely to have been nutrient rich and therefore a benefit to your body. It is no worse than eating prawns which are simply sea maggots.
Oh God, I would never get over that. You can complain to the Supermarket, but the only compensation you can expect would be some vouchers. I complained to Tesco about one of their ready meals, which contained loads of splintered bone. They sent me a 5 money card that can be spent in store.
I would send them the pear if possible, put it in a sealed jar and then box it up with polystyrene bits or torn newspaper, also request a refund of your mailing costs.
I always check fruit carefully for holes on the outside whilst washing them, usually that is a sign that something is living inside, but I know how you feel, years ago, I was eating an apple whilst watching TV in the dark, but had a strange feeling that I should put the light on. I did and my next bite would have been the maggot inside it. I didn't eat apples again for years and if I do, like to cut them up first.
