Blimey that home was a bit of a place wasnt it. Its good you are able to stay at home though and as Miss Marple quite liked poor clumsy gladys I presume you have some liking for your carer even if his caring skills leave something to be desired. It is a shame your mum is ill too as that must be difficult for both of you. It is a postcode lottery I worked in the health service (only on the domestic side) but we all knew that. Alot depends too on if you go away quietly accepting or stand up for your rights. Not easy for you but at least if you like your carer as a person its a big help. If someone was super efficient it wouldnt help if you didnt like them as you would resent them being there doing for you. I'm sorry as I guess it isnt easy and must be very frustrating its something people cant really understand either until they have been there. I know I hadnt realised so many little hassles facing people in wheelchairs till my mum was in one. That opened my eyes a lot. I had never realised people would see the chair not the person they talked as if she wasnt there. Id get so angry when they would ask me does she want a drink ? I'd say why not ask her not me and they'd be so surprised as if they hadnt considered that. She had lost the use of her legs not her mouth. I dont think people mean anything by it they just dont think but its infuriating.

Unfortunately thbe 'Gladys ' similarity was my Mum's idea, I did lke my carer at first, when I was at the Home he was O.K. but as time has gone on I have resented him more and more and he has made it plain that he resents not being able to push me around like the staff at The Home could push some of the Residentsd around, He is never going to be someone who can take too much responsibility and the only time he could at the Home was when everybody who did had left and there was him and very new people sas the place was by then unbareable for the others so they left., I think he thought I would move to my own pl,ace but I never told him I would and if I had he wouldn'tr be my Carer as although I liked him I didn't like him enough to put up with him without my Mum being around, he is 2 faced, he waits until my Mum is out of earshot and then he nis lascivious. Have you heard of the expression "Running with the Hare and The Hounds"? Well that's him, he says one thing to my Mum and another to me When I say my mum was ill she had bad flu, my niece came round on her birthday and sneezed over everyone in fact she infected half of Dursley while she was ill, my sisters thought both my parents would die but fortunately there are O.K. now but it took a few weeks fdor them to recover. Yes it is a Postcode Lottery, Did I tell you I get 24 Hour Care and my Aunt in Leicester has 3 hours? I can't remember as my last email was too long and I hat to take a bit off.
Have you told your mum what hes really like. I guess its difficult as you need the help and his sort always seem to go for those sort of jobs I think maybe its a power complex with them. Could you not tell whoever comes round to check alls well that you'd prefer someone older, younger, female etc that way you arent criticising him. Its a rotten position to be in for you but you dont have to put up with stuff you have rights too. If it helps you can always sound off at me when you feel like exploding i'm thick skinned.
Question Author
Yes I I have told my mum what he is like and she realises how sly he is but She needs help with me and he is efficient and at her age she doesn't want to train someone else, she doesn't like him and nor do my sister and my weekend Carer has said she would rather not work with him as sher has to sometimes one reason being he gives her the creeps and scares her 4 year old son, I feel trapped as she casn go out but she feels trapped too tto a certain extent, My Social Worker is no help she just says who we employ is up to us. You have to give people 2 weeks notice but it takes 4 weeks to hire someone so we would be trapped for 2 weeks.
Yes thats quite a problem but just a suggestion I work in a building that is all different charities theres two in my building carers and volunteers bureau both are free and there to help people. If you looked in the phone book to see if you have something like that they'd visit you and they might be able to offer short term care for the 2 weeks and help getting a new carer. Your social worker is not being very helpful when she says its up to you who you employ. Shes not doing her job very well. Why does he have to know you are getting someone else cant you find someone
train them so they are ready to start when he leaves then get rid of him so there is no gap between them. If your weekend carer knows what he's like cant she come up with any ideas as she must know others in that field of work. How awful for you. Why not ask on the law section here if anyone has a solution. Actually you must get disability allowance so why not ring them they are very helpful usually and they might be able to put you in contact with someone who can offer a solution. Sorry I cant be of more help but if I think of anything else i'll let you know.
Question Author
Thankyou for your suggestions, Firstly A Charity helped with placing an Ad and finding my Carer but they don't have people who they can call upon to fill vacancies either permanently or temporarily so I can't look ther, Secondly, there are Agencies where we could get people temporarily but they would charge too much and we wouldn't be able to have them for as long as we need them, It wouldn't be a good idea to get my Carer to train up his replacement as knowing him as I do he would refuse and probably just quit there and then as he would have to be given notice. Lastly, I got my weekend Carer because a woman had her job but was made the promise of extra Hours at the Home she worked at and so she suggested my present Weekend Carer but now due to reasons which are too complicated to go into they aren't friends anymore and my present Carer has not got the same Contacts zas before she was my Carer she wasn't in Care Work where as her predecessor was. am reading Mrs Mallory Investigateds at the Moment, It's abit like the Mel Craig Books but Mrs Mallory is telkling the story, I am enjoying it. Thankyou for your help.
Well I wasnt any help as nothing was any help whatsoever.
Its a very difficult one that. what happens if he left who trains a new carer then. Couldnt your weekend carer train someone ? I know this care in the community is all well and good but it can be expensive as these people seem to charge awfully high rates but I guess like you say they are not in it out of dedication. Its all about money like everything these days I guess.
Im glad you are enjoying the book I havent heard of those i'll look out for it. Im doing a quiz on fictional detectives not doing too great either but its early days yet.
Question Author
My Mother would have to train a new Carer and she is getting on, When the end of my Carers Probationary period was coming up my Mum asked if I wanted to keep him but then she said she didn't really think she would be up to teaching someone else so I felt I had to say we would keep him. My wwekend Carer couldn't train a new Carer as I have had an on-goping wound that my mum has been waiting to heal before she teaches my her to deal with that part of my anatomy. Good luck with your Detective quiz, I would be interested to see it.
If you go to http://www.sitesaveronline.co.uk /quiz
click on quizzes and scroll down till you find the ones with red flags theres the details of how to get it there. Its the one for a cats home.
I see why you said you'd keep the carer even if you dont like him. Bit of a catch22 you were in. It must be upsetting for your mum too as she knows you dont like him. Maybe a solution will appear and things will resolve themselves. Lets hope so.
Have you read Elizabeth Ferrars ?
Question Author
I must be doing something wrong as I didn't see the word Quizzes or any red Flag. I will look up Elizabeth Ferrars
Thats because in its wisdom answerbank has only linked up half the link the /quiz should be on the link as well if you
look at my link again you will see what I mean.
I like some of Ferrars books but not all but she has written alot. Alot like Sue Grafton though ive not got into hers.
Question Author
No, still can't do it I get a page saying site saver online. I saved Elizabeth Ferrars to my bookmarks, What are her Detectives like? My sister bought me 6 Sue Grafton books but as A wasn't one I didn't read them, I think they were F to K
well its definately http://www.sitesaveronline.co.uk/quiz
You should go straight to a page called fundraising quizzes,
Do you only read them in order I never do I get a book I have to read it, I try and get the rest but I am too impatient
to wait. Sue Grafton is supposed to be good. I never got into her or P D James. Trouble is if you start with one thats not so good it puts you off looking again at the rest.
Question Author
I was taken to a different site this time, It looks as if it is the right one, I have book marked it and will look at it some other time, Since reading The last Poirot book before the 1st Poirot book and having the Gender of the 1st books Murderer given I have tried to read books in order I managed it with the Thanet books, The Mel Craig books and am hopefully going to manage it with the Darina Lisle Books and the Mrs Mallory books, I didn't manage it with Simon Brett's Melita Pargetter books and have recently duiscovered there are more I haven't read yet. I have only read 2 P. D James Novels, I had them for years since buying from a book Club and decided I would read them before seling them on ebay, They didn't sell so I still have them, I have a 3rd which I might read sometime, sadly I remembered who the Murderer was in one as I saw the last Episode from when it was on Television and remembered it and with the other the Murderer was revealed far too early for my liking, I have seen the whole of the adapt of the other one I have got recently so might not read it. I wish I had room in my Bedfroom to have a Map of Britain so I could put pins in the locations where Detectives I have read are, If that makes sense, I do subscribe to a Puzzle book called Logic Problems and I sent of an Idea along those lines and afew months later they Published a Puzzle based on my idea which was Great.
Thats a coincidence I buy Logic puzzle book too. I love them in fact I have included some in maths lessons to give my son a better understanding of problem solving.
I am glad you found my quiz site - what did you think to it, Stanley made it for me. Its only been running about 3 months and has had 5,000 hits so im well pleased for him.
Im stuck on the last one of the investigators RD by PKD
RD being the investigator PKD the author.
Question Author
I have just had another look at your quiz page and I couldn't work out how to take part. the only RDs I can recall are the Creator of Frost, who is RD Wingfield, The Creator of Wycliffe isd RD something I think. I love the rercurring Charadcters in Logic Problems especially the Knock-kneed Knights and as I am a P. G. Wodehouse Fan I love the Drones and I love the Problems in two parts where some of the clues are numbered and some are lettered, Afew years ago I read the First of Ann(e) Grainger's Meredith and Mitchell books, It took me 9 Months but I persevered as a Murder had been committed before I got bored of it so felt I had to continue reading it but as a consequence it put me months behind with my Logic Problems and have a Cupboard with about 84 unstarted Issues, I love Storbury the little fictional Village where some of the Problems are set. I really must send off the Puzzles I have made up, I received 6.00 for the other one, the ones I have prepared and not sent are with a range of subjects. I say I am a P. G. Wodehouse fan but I have only got the Jeeves and Wooster series starring Hugh Lawrie and Stephen Fry on Video and receive the News letter as I am a Member of the Appreciation Society Wooster Sauce, I also Have Audio Cassettes of the |Lord Emsworth Books read Brilliantly by Martin Jarvis (That reminds me I have to order A Pelican At Blandings which he reads) I have a reading of a Wooster book by Simon Callow (He doesn't sound right) and I have 2 Wooster books Dramatised with Richard Briers (Patron of the Society) as Bertie Wooster , and Sir Michael Hordern as Jeeves I also have a Reading of one of the other books read by John Cecil - He played Hastings in 3 of the Poirot films where Peter Ustinov plays Poirot (Ustinov played Poirot 6 times), Although I have afew Podehouse books I haven't read them yet. By the way Something in the back of my heads is saying that Poldark was created by an RD but can't find his name when I type Poldark in Google
Thanks i'll look at those ideas you've given me. The authors initials are PDK its the detective thats RD by the way.
I am not a wodehouse fan but I only read one years ago. I think Stephen Fry is ideal for the series though. I think i'm
struggling and I only have 2 issues of Logic and im half way through both of them.I like the ones that dont have a gris to them. You have enough to keep you thinking for years there. I like the Tsunami puzzles as well but you dont see those on sale much now. Actually they have stopped selling Logic now only in a very few towns unless you have a subscription you cant get them easily.
I like the Mitchell & Markby books. I dont watch TV but I dont like books being made into series as it spoils my idea of what they should look like. Silly I know but I build up a picture in my head then once ive seen someone on TV I picture them instead. Like Bergerac I immediately see Jim Nettles now hes Barnaby out the Caroline Graham books and I keep thinking of Bergerac if you see what I mean!
Question Author
Yes I know what you mean, on the Agatha Christie ebsite I go on there are mixed feelings about Geraldine MKewan's portrayal of Miss Marple, Most don't like her in the role - Me included. I was wrong about Poldark, William Graham created that book, I have a subscription of Logic Problems which I renew every year, I have seen Tsunami Puzzles advertised but don't know what they are, In the I think the Company changed their name after the Disaster afew years ago.
Yes you could be right I wondered if it had anything to do with the Tsunami disaster.
I already have subscription to family history magazine so I daren't take another out.
Its odd isnt it i'm not a Bond fan yet if you read the books Sean Connery fits the bill but Roger Moore is as far removed from the description as could be, he's nothing like, he made a brilliant Saint and a good Brett Sinclair but Bond no way. I think they should at least find someone who fits the bill when making a series from a book.
Cant say as im keen on the Miss Marple actress either. Agatha Christies life is a bit like one of her mysterys too the way she disappeared.
Question Author
I have never read James Bond Books so I don't know what Ian Flemings Description of him is like, The only James Bond Film I have sat all the way through is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Yesterday I looked up who you are looking for and found someone who fitted the bill but today forgot where I found the name so I went on Yahoo Answers and asked and someone suggested Philip Kerr which I remembered as the name I found However, When I put him into Google I was sent to Wikipaedia which gave his middle initial as B but I do remember yesterday the 1st site I found gave his middle initial as D.
