A man falls down in a field and cuts his hand on a splinter of wood from a stake used to kill a vampire many years ago. He isn't sure what's happening to him at first because the light starts to hurt his eyes, he suffers from insomnia, then develops a taste for raw meat - followed by a hunger for fresh, warm human blood. He starts having violent images in his head about killing people and his girlfriend and doctors put him in an asylum as they don't know what's wrong with him. I don't know how he finds out, but he discovers the splint of wood in his hand was from a stake used to kill a vampire who was then buried on unhallowed ground. The story is told from the man's perspective and it's a heart wrenching story.
