In the early 1940's (yes, really!) I read at school a book about a journey up the Amazon, including a visit to Manaus. It was recommended by our English teacher. I seem to remember it was quite a small black book, and the contents impressed me greatly. But I can't remember the title or the author.

A friend has just returned from such a journey, on a modern cruise ship, and I'd very much like to trace this book. Can anyone help? Obviously, if you just type "Amazon book "into Google, it's no help!

This bloke wrote a book about his amazon exploration. He went back to South America and disappeared, his fate being unknown.
