hello there, in a bit of a panic so i've turned to you clever people of answerbank.
i have an essay due to hand in next week and i'm so so stuck. my selected topic was "compare and contrast two artists approach of memory, and are they successful in doing so?"
i picked this topic about a month ago and can't settle on any two artists. anyone have any suggestions of artists i can look at dealing with memory who will have plenty of documentation about them?
that or do you think it's a bit late in the day to change topics to one i can write about easily?
any pointers would be great

Well anyway your topic sounds great, please don't change it. If you haven't thought of it already, you should have a look at Giorgio de Chirico. I think you'll find plenty inspiration in his paintings as such, but if you don't, there's always the subject of his self-forgeries, you could easily relate them, too, to the subject of memory.
Wikipedia: De Chirico's later paintings never received the same critical praise as did those from his metaphysical period. He resented this, as he thought his later work was better and more mature. He produced backdated "self-forgeries" both to profit from his earlier success, and as an act of revengeretribution for the critical preference for his early work. He also denounced authentic paintings from his early period, and even his own later self-forgeries, as anonymous forgeries.
Good luck!

Dali is an obvious choice for one, Franco Magani, known as the memory artist.
Picasso also did a project drawing animals from memory.
More contemporary artist are:
Mike Kelley - The memory Ware project in particular.
Josiah McElheny (he works with glass so not sure if that is the right sort of thing). Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.
