book title?

I read a horror book a few years ago set (i think), in 60s America. It was about a group of young friends who were being murdered 1 by 1. Their school was haunted and a horrible truck with dead animals in the back would arrive before one of them was killed. It ended, rather strangely, with the kids climbing down huge worm type holes, trying to avoid the man eating creatures that lived there. For the life of me I can't think what it was called but it was fantastic. Can anyone help?

Never mind, I have found the answer. The book (for anyone who cares) is called 'Summer of Night'. Thank god for that!
