KM Links Game - January week 4 results
37 Answers
Good morning everyone - from sunny and warm down-under. We have a week or so in the mid 30's which will be very pleasant indeed, I think I'll be able to crawl out of the freezer for quite a few days and catch up on all the chores I've been ignoring and I hope things are beginning to 'defrost' for all of the colder areas around you.
Well, Kate did one of her predictable about-turns, with two 'gimme's' and two 'I'd never have thought of that !!' expect that in each case a small number of people did !!!
These were the matches -
House Plant
King Cobra
Ruby Throat
Scotch Broth
Four entries collected points with their House Plant and two - SLANEY [who knows her birds} and STRIX [ who is one] scored with a Ruby Throat, while the number of people who collected points for the combination of the other two - well, I was reminded of a line in Bridget Jones' Diary, when noting her alcohol units exclaimed 'oh, hundreds !!!' not quite that many, but about 35 - not bad !!!
Three people even managed to put the two with one of the others and make it 6 points and they were JOBJOCKEY, EIGGAM & PRESCOTT and very few managed not to score - there are actually one or two who try to make this an art form and both have failed dismally in their quest this month - Strix has aquired 2 points while Dustybun has scored 1 - who knows to what lengths they will go to avoid any more such disasters before the end of the month !!!
Needless to say, there has been considerable activity on the Leader Board so I will post this, just to prove I'm actually here and doing things - so Congratulations to everyone, a magnificent weekend !!!
and we'll all come back next Saturday, for the grand finale, so same time, same place, take care till then

Strix - why don't you go shift some furniture or something !!!
Hi tambo - no we're headed for some good stuff, everyone off out with their barbies [and I don't mean dolls] for Oz Day tomorrow. Some clown has started the age old arguement about changing the ozzie flag [agaaaaaaain] Game Rules - I make them up as I go along - no not really - using the link words from Sat DT GK, we try to predict the matches in the Herculis - so long as all entries are in by midnight Sunday, then I score and post results later - is good fun, bit of chatter and nonsense and gets quite cut-throat at times. Score 1 point for one correct, 3 for two, 6 for 3 and 10 for all four correctly predicted and that doesn't happen very often - you're usually around in the morning, but there's no rush - I post the questions first, then the game starts at 7.00am Saturday morning and goes till Sunday night - even dizmouk2009 has joined in [after saying he'd rather do himself in first - clot !!!] and it's always the more the merrier.

I rather think I'm with Strix on his latest idea - Not sure but I think I might be in the running for the misere prize this month. Congratulations to those who did well, especially 'ruby throat', I've been laid low with a nasty bug this month and my first thought was it was describing my condition very well. Had no idea it was a bird.
Strix and Christiania - Forget it! I've won that particular game for the last umpteen months. But we used to have something called 'the freefall club' - where I was frequently in the lead - and where the winner was the person who had scored 0 for the most weeks. Would it be easy for you, Steff, to extract that snippet of information from your files? Thanks for organisng it all for us, and although I (almost) never score I have a lot of fun being mildly subversive.
I joined in a couple of weeks ago and thought the idea might be to get unusual connections rather than predict the Herculis ties. Ah well, yet another example of premature senility.
Are there any sympathy points going for writing from an overcast Sussex and trying to fight off an evil cough and cold?
Thank you, seekerz, for your efforts.

Hi middlestump ~ sounds like you should have a go at the MM Links game which is always just a few threads after the KM Links. Can't do anything about an overcast Sussex but I can promise if you keep a bulb of garlic always on your bedside table (replacing it when it begins to crumble) you will never again have to fight off an evil cough and cold. :0)
Oh my goodness, it's a busy little spot tonight, where do I start !!!
Christiana - I wondered if all was well with you - you've been 'very quiet' this month, I hope you're on the mend
roslyn - indeed you did have both those choices and are with the group on 3 points each - but you've had many other things on your plate. what I couldn't work out was why crofter was posting your links when HIS computer was on the blink !! ?? Don't worry about it, I'm easily confoozed.
middlestump - I'm glad you're still with us - you see, we're breaking you in gently and soon we'll be suggesting you try put the MM Links Game - far more unpredictable and considerably more kudos than our KM, and if you win, you get to set the next month's links, and when that's all up and running, then we invite you to the Friday night booze-up in the Shrubbery !!!!
Dusty - my favourite little wabbit - how are you ?? able to get out of the warren yet ?? or has it all now iced you in ?? hope you took all the necessary steps to provide yourself and the children with everything you'd need [ or have you sent them off to the carboot sale yet ?? ] You're never going to live that one down, you know !!! I'll have a nice cold beer on your behalf tomorrow - I'm so glad I don't have to go to work on Wednesday !!!
kettledrum - I love your subversiveness [is that spelled correctly ?? ] every week I wonder just what combinations you will come up with, particularly when it backfires and you do score with one of Kate's doozies, but yes I can go back and check and will report what I find - would you like the person with the longest time span of no score to be announced ??? A sort-of reverse winning thingy !!!

Damn thing, I just finished writing and it tells me too many letters - bleeerrr !!!
Aha, I see my sidekick, the dusty bunny is hard at work, using her subversive ways on middlestump - she would never lead you astray so listen up.
And don't worry about the mild senility, I think most of us suffer occasionally, some more than others - am pointing no fingers !!
Think it's my bedtime, I'm not making much sense to me right now and that's never a good sign, so I shall be a party pooper, but I'll come in tomorrow and clear away all the empties - nite, nite, Steff

Thanks for the alternative therapy idea, dusty - i must give it a try. Knowing my luck, though, I'll probably find out that I have an allergy to garlic bulbs :-)
seekerz - i'm not sure about setting links, but the invitation sounds good - i bet armagnac is expensive in oz, though
i note that what differentiates me from the two of you is that my nickname might actually be a link at some time :-)
Best wishes, Steve
