What does an Art Buyer actually do to acquire such pieces of art, whether it be modern or Pre-Raphaelite etc.

Ideally, they get an MA in Art History, work in museum art galleries, work for several years for an art dealer, visit as many art galleries as they can to gen up on the masters. Then, attend as many art events and auctions as they can fit in, all the time keeping up with the latest on peoples' preferences in a volatile market.
