I am nearly finished my 1st John Grisham novel, The Rainmaker. I am enjoying it but am finding it rather slow although I am looking forward to the ending.
Was this the best book to start with, is it one of his first and do later books of his move with a bit more pace?

The first I read was Runaway Jury and I found it fascinating. I've read another 6 or 7 or 8 Grisham novels since. They are all okay but I find some of them are not very believable. So I suggest you try Runaway Jury.
The Rainamker wasn't his first book .The first one was A time to Kill .Several of his books have been made into films .Most of his books are courtroom type dramas . Legal thrillers ,lawyers, the mob ,corruption, racism and murder . . A couple are about American football .
He was a a lawyer himself but gave up practice to write bestsellers .They're not a bad read but a bit mediocre and samey after a while .
Imo the best one was A Painted House .

Just to agree with Shaneystar - A Painted House is a brilliant novel. I have read all of his books but tjere is one other book I've enjoyed immensely recently - The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly. Worth a read.

Yep .. Michael Connelly ,brilliant .
That's the one about the lawyer Mickey haller who runs his practice out of the back of his car isn't it fbg40 ?
I've read all his books .I love Harry Bosch :)
A few must be good, as several years ago, my gf at that time would always read them in bed. I would always get pushed away on those occasions : )

Thanks very much all who posted, I'll certainly get Runaway Jury and A Painted House. I shed a tear for you Albags. Cheers.
The Testament was, in my opinion, the best Grisham novel!
