How to reclaim payment protection on a bank loan
I'm hoping some well informed ABers can help me with any tips on what to put in a letter to my bank to reclaim payment protection on a bank loan. What details should I include in this letter and what are the key words and the phrases which will help me. My thinking is that I've been a diabetic with high blood pressure and high cholestrol (all tablet controlled) for a long time, and when I took out this bank loan I mentioned all these illnesses to the girl at the bank and she said not to worry about them. Someone has told me that if my illness deteriorates and I' off work and I have to make a claim on the insurance then I won't be covered. Has anyone any experience of my situation and any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

I would write to them saying something like 'further to your acceptance of my pAyment protection, I would like to reitterate my statement made
to your employee ( insert name) at your (town) branch that any claim will be accepted despite my medical condition (describe). If my understanding is incorrect, please
contact me by return'

dertagnon, they should/will have sent you a policy document at the time you took out the cover - the PPI I have on credit cards etc send me updates from time to time. You can either ask for a copy of the policy T&Cs or look it up on the internet, you should find it on the bank website. If you declared your illnesses when you took out the insurance then you might find that if you are off work because of those conditions, you may not be covered as they were pre-exosting. It is all in the policy wording. if you have to claim (and I did, when I had to go into hospital), the bank send you a claim form which you and your doctor have to fill in. I hope this helps.

Hi, go to the second link Chris has put on and send the letter from that. Your bank will probably tell you that you can't claim but don't listen to that and send off the second letter. If they tell you no to that one send off the one to the Ombudsman. You may have to wait a while maybe over a year but they do send you letters every so often to let you know they haven't forgot about you. I did it and got all my money back plus interest. Even then the bank said it was in the right but had to pay out because of the ruling by the Ombudsman. My circumstances were slightly different from yours but still health related but bank still sold me something they knew at the time I wouldn't be able to claim off. Good luck. Shed.
