can someone please explain to me just why Jehovah's Witnesses would refuse a transfusion? (15:20 on Sun 30/May/10)
My friend is standing at the bedside of her critically ill Dad who has joined the JWs with all of the family, my friend is not in the religion, they have given him a matter of hours to live, yet he...has categorically refused a transfusion when he briefly came round, he has signed a disclaimer before the op, I am so sad for my friend who is very upset and crying when she has just rang me, hell! what do you say to someone in here situation?
I just would like someone to come on and give a positive to all this

If JW's refuse transfusions then they should be discharged and sent home so that someone who does actually want life saving treatment can be treated

Hospitals are for ill people to be treated in the hope that they may get better, they are NOT a place for religious nuts to watch their relatives die unnecessarily

The medical profession by law do not have a right to allow people to die they will override his consent and give him the transfusion.

it is a bit sketchy sqad, I know he had some of his bladder removed 3 yrs back, cancer, and I am told this is some kind of recontructive surgery where he has to have stents inserted..???

They won't. maggie - I used to work in a hospice and the patient's wishes were paramount. Anyone can refuse to give consent to treatment if they are mentally capable of doing so.
