i do now know who you are, but I know just how you died
Awash with crimson boyhood blood a heart that never cried
A name that’s long forgotten a stone I view each year
An unnamed hero with no face, a hero with no fear
Your bloodied death once stained a field blown apart by war
Man to man in a senseless fight, from field out to shore
Strangers joined across a land, become brothers in fight
Side by side they die as one, in victory unite
Millions lost their lives for us so we could all be free
Yet generations that you died for repeat a bloody history
The price you paid gifted hope that we take for granted
We need to learn from yesteryear and grow the seeds you planted
The callous wind blows against my face yet the poppies they remain
A reminder of the sacrifice, the suffering and pain
I stand here with my son, just as my father once with me
In remembrance of the millions who died for us, so we could be free
I do now know who you are, but I know just how you died

I gave my son a gift last christmas- a trip on a plane to see the Northern Lights. They saw them in Icelandic airspace -beautiful.Wished we'd done the night trip when we were in Iceland -just didnt have the time -maybe next time.
