Title of fairy story / folk tales

As a child I read many books especially Ladybird books and most of the title I can remeber like The Little Red Hen, Rumplestiltskin and The Musicians of Bremen etc. However, there is one story that I can't remember the title to. The story is of a couple who live in a cottage and they want a child but the wife can't seem to conceive so he grows lettuce and other veg in the garden which she eats and this helps her to conceive.

Strange story I know but I'm sure it existed. Anyone out there know what I'm going on about?

It was Rapunzel. The wife craved the rampions (type of lettuce) in the next door garden, the husband stole some. The enchantress who owned them caught him and demanded the as yet unborn child etc...

Wow! Thanks Valane, I can't believe I forgot the connection between that part of the story to Rapunzel being locked in the tower.

Don't remember the rampions bit but I do remember the lettuce.

I'm probably older than you. I had the original Grimm's Book of Fairy Tales. I think Ladybird modernised some of the words!

I wonder if kids today still read these books.

My six year old grandson (nearly seven) has just borrowed the aforementioned Grimm's Fairy Tales. I think if a child is read to from birth and sees adults reading then they love to read. He reads lots of modern stories too.

Well I'm certainly going to make sure my Little Tiggs reads them. I don't know what my mum did with all of my books, she thinks they may be in her loft. If not then I'll get them off ebay.
