Not sure if this is the area, but would really like to know where the best online dictionary is? I know you can Ask Jeeves what some words mean, but need to know where to find a dictionary on the Internet?

Can any of you help me, and if so then thanks for your replies?

I used www.dictionary.com
Yep, I use that one too.
Me too.
www.onelook.com because it links to many other dictionaries. www.wordnik.com is good for puzzles because it has a lot of archaic usages.
you can just use google - just type "define:elephant" [or whatever] and it will give you results from different dictionaries.
Why bother with the internet? TheSage is a fantastic (and totally free) download, which provides a quality dictionary alongside a thesaurus (listing synonyms, antonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, meronyms and holonyms) which is permanently available on your computer, irrespective of whether you're connected to the internet or not:
http://www.sequencepublishing.com/thesage.html

The only thing that TheSage lacks is etymologies, but I'm happy to reach for my (print) copy of the Concise Oxford Dictionary when I need those.
