Brazilian waxing: How long before I go on holiday

Hi

I am thinking of getting a brazilian wax for my holiday this year. I have never had one done before.

How long before I go on holiday should I get it done? And do you think it would be a sensible idea to have a trial wax before I have one for my holiday.

How long on average does the skin remain smooth and hair free? I really only need it like that for 10 days, I suppose it will be fine for 10 days?

You should have it done a couple of days before you go as any later and you're skin will be prone to stinging if you go in the sea, or burning. Give it a couple of days to calm down. Also - you are aware of what a proper brazilian entails i assume, ouch! Otherwise go for a hollywood which is hair off, but they leave your botty alone. Hair will start to grow back after a few weeks, so with ten days you'll be fine, make sure you moisturise the area lots, with something suitable for after waxing, so it doesn't sting.

If you get any ingrowing hairs use TendSkin, available from beauty shops, and also a little tip - have an aspirin an hour before you have it done, it thins the blood and stops it hurting so much. apparently. And be warned it may itch when it starts growing back, also make sure the hair is long enough to wax in the first place. Good luck and have a great holiday!

I have found that waxing lasts longer when you have it done regularly, having it done a few days before you go may not last for the whole ten days - it didn't with me but then I have dark, thick hair.

Also, I would definitely advise having a 'trial' wax beforehand.

Sorry to hihack Stephanie but .. Hi Becks,

Tendskin - Do you just rub it in? how does it work? get lots of ingrowing hairs from waxing my legs and try to deal with them by exfoliating but doesn't really keep them at bay.

If you do get it done, Stephanie, here's a little tip - after you get it done, dont have a shower until the next morning - this will prevent the red dots staying for days, and some of the itchiness as well. Remember to exfoliate (it works fine for me, but for people with darker or thicker hair something extra like TendSkin will help a lot). Other than that, becks is spot on with her advice - do it a few days before you go, use a calming, soothing moisturiser (something along the lines of calamine lotion or anything with loads of cammomile or lavender in it), and you will be fine :) Have a great time!

Buchanan - with TendSkin you just soak a cotton wool pad with the liquid then dab it on, it stings to high heaven (in a kind of nice way!) if you do it very soon after shaving, but does prevent them, and if you get them it will bring the hair to the surface so you can hook it out. Not sure how it works!
