Can anyone tell me how I can make my big toe nails softer. Is there something I could soak into them?

I have terrible trouble cutting them even when I have bathed my feet in my foot spa for twenty minutes or so. The other toes are fine and I don't have a problem with mobility so I can reach. They are so tough and even though I use a pair of toenail scissors, they just seem to shave off in bits.

I can't use toenail clippers. I don't have enough strength in my hands. I have the occasional pedicure but cannot afford them as often as I would like.

Hi Tilly,
may be try warmed olive oil? Other than that, have you thought about a nail manicure spa that works on either mains or battery? .. http://www.argos.co.u...artNumber/4436917.htm
Scholl do a toenail softener. It's a liquid which you apply to the tip of the nail and leave for 10 minutes before cutting. I think Boots do an own brand one as well. And if you need other footcare stuff, Boots have all footcare on 3 for 2 at the moment (and no I don't work for them !).

Two really good answers here. The softener sound just what I need and the nail spa might save a bit of work. Thank you both.
