Sqad, need some advice please

happy bank holiday weekend
My 8 year old woke up with a very red eye on Sunday morning. She said it had been 'wet' and stuck together when she woke, so whilst in Asda I asked the pharmacist for advice. He gave her some Optrex chloramphenicol drops and I have been using them as directed.
Her other eye became red and weepy over the course of Sunday and when she woke yesterday both eyes were very red and very sore
This morning, the eye that went red first is quite swollen. Trying to suggest a visit to the out of hours GP brings on hysteric and she is, for reasons unknown, scared silly of anything GP or nurse related
Anyway, the reason I am asking you for advice is that she says her eyes hurt when she closes them, she has slightly blurred vision and the light is causing her some discomfort so it's more than 'just' conjunctivitis isn't it and she needs more than just the drops (which BTW I have stopped as I thought she may have been having a reaction to them)
I feel a bit daft asking because really I know what you are going to say - but she needs to see a GP, doesn't she?

Bath both eyes with cotton wool and warm water and lease remember to wash your hands and hers.
Monitor the situation for the next 48 hours and it should start to settle down

If it gets worse and you are still worried would she be ok seeing an optician?
Some have a Red Eye service where there is a free walk in clinic and they will have a look for you and can prescribe eyedrops and such like a normal prescription and I think make referrals. I used it the other week when I was having vision problems, my local Specsavers had one and I was seen very quickly.
Might be an option if she needs to be seen and refuses to go near a GP.
I think I just googled my area and red eye opticians to find which ones did them.

Hopefully it will clear up and soon
She is disappointed she hasnt been able to go to the cinema today, we cancelled our lunch date yesterday and we had plans for tomorrow but it really wouldn't be fair on others to take her into the public domain lol
