I recently bought some hair thinning scissors as my hair gets really thick really fast, however before I let my girlfriend lose with them I want to know is it just a case of chopping away and trying to take the same amount out all over my noggin

any help greatly appreciated

cheers

do you mean if we could all do it ourselves then there'd be NO hairdressers dude?

the thing is with thinning it isnt like styling, they literally just chop away with the special scissors and it thins it, hence the question

thanks for the input

The best thing to do is take your girlfriend with you when you next have a haircut. That's how I learned how to cut my ex's.  He's not my ex because of the haircuts in case you're wondering!

I wouldn't recommend just going for it  - the dog groomer uses thinnning scissors on my spaniel & beautiful as he is you wouldn't want to look like him!

cheers robinia, I dont want them thinking im going to do them out of a job though!

i'm tempted to have a crack (or let my gf have a crack) before I need my hair cut anyway, so in case I get in wrong then I can get it sorted anyways

Im not fussed about her not being able to do the style of it, only take the clumpiness out of it

Did you see how to do that Robinia? :D

How I envy you Kev. Mine thins on its own.

I used to work with a lady who swore by them and her hair looked great... go on, have a go and let us know!!

hmm yeh I only posted this up to show off to all you baldys :)

only joking eupraxia. goldheart im a bit apprehensive to let the gf loose before I know its fool proof and not much thinking necessary

Sorry Kev I never had to do any thinning but I could make you into a showstopper at Crufts!!

I tell you what, post some before & after pics & we'll give you marks out of 10 for style & originality.  Or comedy value!

Spray hair with a bit of water, comb, take a section of hair, start from near the roots depends how long your hair is, then cut as you move down the length of the hair. Only do a few cut at a time and check for the thickness, carry on if you need to thin more.

Dont think you need to do this in a few years time, peoples hair get thinner as they age.lol

Mine used to be thick but no more.  :(

Have fun!

thanks a lot jean88, thats the sort of answer I needed!

my hair is fairly short so im hoping that if I just get someone to run the scissors through once and make sure that the thickness is consistent through then it'll be ok. the scissors dont affect length at all then?

It will take the length off if you run it through too many times. Each section run it through the length say 2 times, made sure you move the cuts along the length ( moving the cuts along blends in the hair)  then check for thickness, repeat if necessary.

Or you can run it through the whole head in sections and then go back and repeat if needed to be thinner, if you find this way easier.

Good luck.
