I read a hint about cleaning teeth a week ago. It said using coconut oil would really make a difference. I tried it today. I had already cleaned my teeth this morning but about lunch time I thought give it a go.
It isn't really oil it is a solidified fat. I put some on my brush and cleaned away. I was amazed when I spat it out there was a definite discolouration.
I could see a difference in my teeth. They were definitely whiter.
I will have another go tomorrow.
Has anyone else tried this?

Lidl were selling it a while ago Ann but they had sold out when I wanted it for a recipe. Not too sure where I got it, it's brand name is KTC.

Thanks. How is hubby ?

Thank you anne, he is much improved. Started driving again, cooking breakfast too. Still gets a bit breathless but is so much better.
Not tried it on teeth but works well as an aftersun and general moisturiser, jury's still out on liver spots though.
Pleased for you both Cavan.

Not tried it for any of that douglas.
Doesn't taste very nice when cleaning teeth but job done ok!
Had a jar in the larder for ages but not got around to using it. Cleaning teeth with it is a new one on me. (Perhaps your teeth are just coated in coconut :-D)
The main purpose in cleaning your teeth is not to whiten them, but to get rid of bacteria residing in the crevices and around your gums in order to prevent cavities and decay. I doubt very much if coconut oil will do this.
Call me an old cynic . . . (yes, please do, 'cos it's entirely accurate!) . . . but I note that the 'evidence' for the dental benefit of coconut oil seems to come solely from the Nigerian Medical Journal. While I'm sure that that are many wholly honest and entirely ethical people in that beautiful country, Nigeria does have a certain reputation for being the world capital of cons!

Call be a boring nerd . . . (yes, once again, wholly accurate!) . . . but I'm one of the few people who actually spends a lot of time reading scientific reports and I know the difference between a valid summary and 'sales pitch'. The following simply doesn't read like a 'proper' scientific report to me:
"This preliminary study shows that coconut oil is an easily usable, safe and cost effective agent with minimal side effects which can be used as an adjuvant in oral hygiene maintenance"

Ok Chris I appreciate your technical knowledge. But I have tried it.
I was impressed by the result.
4-5 years ago I had a spiral perm which made my hair very dry. I used to buy coconut oil BP for £2ish, and it was like solid white lard.I would put a tablespoon of it in microwave to melt, then plaster it on my hair and leave it under a shower cap for half an hour or so. Seems I was ahead of my time, lol!

^^^ Interestingly, the 'scientific evidence' only claims that coconut oil will help reduce plaque build up. It most definitely doesn't suggest that it will instantly remove it!

Are you sure that you've not used bleach by mistake, Caran?

;-)
Somebody call da polees, there's a Domestos brewing.
I have a tub of the solid stuff, they sell it in Superdrug, great for hair and skin. Not sure i'd want to try it on teeth though.
think that whiteness you see is psychological only a bleaching agent can whiten teeth and that's expensive to be done correctly and has to be "topped up" regularly
Thanks for that Caran, will buy some and try it. Will let you know!
