Can`t remember if I have asked this before (don`t think I have). Do you tip your hairdresser when they are the person who owns the salon? After all, they get the profit.

I tip the hairdresser, but I'd shop around a bit more for your highlights. Here are some typical prices to bench mark against. http://cropshop.uk.com/prices/

Senior stylists, managers, owners no; just the juniors.

Eccles walks away wondering if she's a tightwad????
I don't go to a salon - but i wouldn't tip the owner
No I tell them to give it to the shampooist
This guy cuts my hair, in his traditional (one man) barber's shop:

(My hair is the reverse of that client's though. i.e. I've got some around the sides but none in the middle, and mine is white instead of black!)

He charges me £7.50 (old codger's rate) and I add an extra quid on when I pay him.

He`s rather hunky, Buenchico
Av just asked Mrs sqad:

Yes, she fells that it is normal and traditional to tip whoever does your hair, whether they are the owner or not is immaterial.
Using 237SJ's logic of not tipping the owner, people presumably shouldn't tip most taxi drivers. The majority of them own their cabs, working on a self-employed basis, and simply pay to have radios (or phone apps) in their cabs.

While I accept that it's sometimes considered offensive to offer a restaurant owner a tip, that can be a bit tricky in many Indian restaurants, where the boss and the staff are all part of the same family anyway.

I have always tipped but I don`t remember the boss of a salon ever cutting my hair. I have a long time mobile hairdresser who comes to my house for a quick trim once per month but I fancy some highlights so want to go to a salon. I guess I`m just going to have to cough up.
The man cuts my hair is the owner. I don't tip him, and I don't think he'd expect it. I tip the girl or lad who washes and dries.

Too late, 237SJ. He's married ;-)

At least he`s not gay (as most good looking men are)
Mrs sqad has just shouted from her room that she would not tip John Freida if he "did" her hair.....any other owner......YES

Does she not like him, Sqad?
I never tip my hairdresser but do give her a present on her birthday and at Christmas. And after the school holidays. Always alcohol :)
The owner of the salon I go to is also the best stylist and I do tip her.
That's what my other half does but I always tip my barber lol
I've had a drastic colour change done spread out over 3 appointments, and so far it's cost me just shy of £400, so no, I don't tip.
Do tell B00, from what to what?
tch, Santa would have brought you one for free, B00, you'd only have to tip the reindeer

Well, my natural colour is sludge brown with LOTS of grey, I had however dyed it myself for well...ever with whatever colour I liked the look of at the time, so it was a combination of sludge brown/greyand 15 (approx) home dye colours. Now it's silver blonde. I'm going lighter yet to fully silver/white, but at £100 a go, it's having to wait till after Xmas. I must add as well my hair is almost down to my bum,so there's a lot of it too.

So as i said, so far its cost £400, which to me is an eye watering amount of money just to spend on my bonce, and I didn't feel it necessary to to pay extra as well, lol.
