False Teeth Problem

Just recently I have been fitted with an upper set of false teeth.
I really hate them and I certainly can’t eat with them in. I also
find they change my speech, which becomes virtually unintelligible,
even to me. I have paid a lot of money so I complained to my
dentist. He just said “you have to get used to them, practice more
speaking with them in, you’ll soon get back to normal”
Is this the case or have I got a bad dentist and bad false teeth.

I'm sorry I can't give you advice, but I believe the practice is to wear the denture as much as possible, revisit you're dentist again.
They can take some getting used to. Wear them as much as you can, I wouldn't go back to the dentist unless they are sore or not fitting properly.
I'm so glad I looked after my teeth. :-)
I think i'd rather have dentures. I don't like dentists!
I don't have dentures... it does seem a better option though.
I don't mind going to the dentist. I'd rather that, than having no teeth in my head.
Sorry, Cananpion, I'm not being very empathetic am I? I'll stop now.
We aren't helping- and he's a new poster... canonpion, I know a lot of people with dentures and it does seem to take a month or so to get properly used to eating and speaking with them (a bit like braces). Your speech will return to normal.
Just keep practicing, Canonpion.

At my time of life it’s probably a mixture of resentment,
impatience and discomfort. I can still eat, well just, without
them in and I am not really ready to learn new tricks.
Thanks for your comments, guess you are all correct, I just
have to learn to put up with them. What a palaver !!
I'm currently wearing a plate with just one tooth on it and even that makes me hard to understand. It means changing the shape of your mouth, which means changing the way your tongue interacts with it when you're talking. I just try to talk as loudly and clearly as I can, and prepare to repeat myself if I'm still not understood.

Not being able to eat seems like a problem, though, since that's what they're for.
The advice I had when I first had false teeth was to wash my mouth out often with a teaspoon of salt in water. Not to attempt solid foods at first but have soups and soft foods. When speaking pull your cheeks in and hold the teeth firmly. Worked for me but it does take time so persevere and you will get there .It will be worth it .
I've got a plate with just one tooth on as well jno I've had it for quite a while. Trouble is my gums are receding and it is now loose so I'm going back this week to see what they can do
