Did it myself with a pair of dog thinning scissors for a long time but the lady I dog sit for now was a hairdresser and does it for free when it needs trimming. When I did go I would sit there dumbstruck with my fists clenched under the shawl thing and couldn't say a word. Would rather go to the dentist.
My friend used to go to one of those salons with a well known name (Toni and Guy I think) and it cost three or four times any other place - and they always managed to sell her a load of stuff when she came out. It was no different to a local salon but then she always had 'designer' glasses too - I used to rib her about it saying I am sure Louis Viton was sitting in his garden shed making the frames.
morning Barry, I am a hairdresser, at our salon we charge £29.50 for a wash cut & blow dry, we dont expect tips, but they are very much appreciated when we do get them, what ever the tip may be, were a small village salon, If your wife has access to a car or good bus route, she may find a near - by village salon has more reasonable prices, for just the same service. have a great day all.
