How often do you visit the hairdresser and how much do you pay for a cut and blow dry?
My wife's usual hairdressers is out of action for a few months and my wife is shocked at the prices in the nearest alternative. £60 for a trim (not restyle my wife insists I mention) and blow dry

Every 6 weeks for me, too.

My wife usually pays around £30, she is going to look further afield. She won't let me have a go with the kitchen scissors
every 8 weeks or so..with a colour treatment £80 cut alone £60
First of all, I'm no lady, secondly my sister-in-law did a barber course at college a few years ago so, nothing.

I've been doing my own hair for years, douglas. I can't believe the number of barbers, mostly Turkish, that have recently cropped up in my small locality. Is it the same where you are?
It is indeed, barry, I'm amazed they can all make a profit.

It's almost as if they have a second income stream on the go with a supply route back to the mother country.

Pure speculation of course.

I do wonder myself.
Every 5 week if not 4, I have fast growing hair, a cut and blow dry is £27 , £29 with a tip
Mrs NJ has her hair washed and cut about every 8-10 weeks. It was £35 for about two years but last time (two weeks ago) it was £42.

I pay £12 for a wash and cut, most of which is a search fee.

That wig has worn your hair out, NJ
I have a phobia about hairdressers and haven't been to one for years. Did it myself with a pair of dog thinning scissors for a long time but the lady I dog sit for now was a hairdresser and does it for free when it needs trimming. When I did go I would sit there dumbstruck with my fists clenched under the shawl thing and couldn't say a word. Would rather go to the dentist.
I go as a model to the hairdressing college. Every 6 weeks or so when they are there, £9 to £13 depending on what year they are in. I'd they are on holiday £18, I hate paying OTT prices for the same thing.
My friend used to go to one of those salons with a well known name (Toni and Guy I think) and it cost three or four times any other place - and they always managed to sell her a load of stuff when she came out. It was no different to a local salon but then she always had 'designer' glasses too - I used to rib her about it saying I am sure Louis Viton was sitting in his garden shed making the frames.
morning Barry, I am a hairdresser, at our salon we charge £29.50 for a wash cut & blow dry, we dont expect tips, but they are very much appreciated when we do get them, what ever the tip may be, were a small village salon, If your wife has access to a car or good bus route, she may find a near - by village salon has more reasonable prices, for just the same service. have a great day all. Mrs C
I go every 6 weeks for cut and blow dry and it's €20 (I know, different currency ) and I give her a €5 tip

Thanks all, the college is a good suggestion, there is a hairdressing college not too far away.
I bought a pair of men's hair clippers (don't know why they're described as men's) some years ago when the price of a haircut got ridiculous.
My daughter whizzes through my hair at the beginning of summer so it's very short and then I leave it to grow until the following summer.
Like lankeela, I hate anyone handling my hair, so I figured out how to do it myself a long time ago. I've always worn my naturally wavy/curly hair in a shaggy style so not too much precision required.
