I have a pair of black trouser with a large white strip down the side of each leg.

The white stripe is now grey from the colour bleed - they have been washed several times - is it too late to save then and if not what can i use?

I'd try laundry bleach.

I'd say you are too late, those sorts of things should be dry cleaned, even if it doesn't say that.

No expert, but I'd guess buying a white tape/ribbon, and sewing it over the existing stripe could work.

Use Fabric paint and draw a pattern?

I've just had a look and the stuff I use is ACE.  If it were me, I'd paint the stripe with ACE and then wash them.

Perhaps the wash you had it on was too hot?

Maybe put them in wash on their own with a good bio wash ball/ powder, also you could rub some Vanish or similar, down white stripes first. Just a 30° wash.

Washed on a 30 degree wash as everything is apart from bedding.

will try ace bleach and see if that helps.

thanks all

Dye them black, or go over the stripe with a large black felt tip marker, forget about the stripe it will always be a problem now.

^^ if you use bleach you'll end up with grey pants

Laundry bleach will be OK, Khandro.

Does bleach know the difference between black and white?

Question Author

Laundry bleach is not chlorine bleach

If the clothes you have aren't working for you toss them out and buy new ones...

it's the modern way🙄

I don't have that kind of money to throw away.

I just want to tidy them up a wee bit.

If you followed the washing instructions faithfully you should take them back, the colours should not bleed like that

//I don't have that kind of money to throw away.//

I've bought perfectly usable good quality items from charity shops for little money.

Dye them all black?  Gets some more wear out of them.

i always use colour catchers in wash they are quite cheap and work even if i put darks with white x

I'd do what Patsy suggested first and if that does not work I'd go with my suggestion.  If that doesn't work, I'd go with YMB's suggestion and dye them.  You can get some very good machine dyes.  However, I would not go with black, because you will probably get a two tone outcome.   I'd go with a contrast colour like a vibrant pink (it won't take on the black material).
