I loved the term BritAfrican. Best wishes to you and your daughter.
Hi I kno this is coming quite late, but I hope this helps.
Though not mixed race, my mother relaxed my hair when I was 6. The question of relaxing childrens hair is really a personal one, I know many people who have relaxed their childrens hair from the age of 5.
The problem was in the old days, there was only one type of relaxer and it was strong and was not recommended for children, however products have evolved over the years.
There are really good products for children to relax there hair which is not as strong as the adult relaxer. In fact I use the childrens relaxer on my hair cause i dont like the straight look. If you just want to soften your childs hair, you can use the childrens relaxer and instead of leaving it for the recommended 10 or 20mins you can just leave it in for 5-8 mins, just halve whatever time the product tells you to leave it in for. That will soften and not straighten the curls.
Heres a link to a product made by L'Oreal USA, which you can get it the Uk.
