Dyeing bed sheets
7 Answers
I've been given some almost new ghastly yellow cotton sheets from which I want to strip the colour by bleaching them. Can anybody give me some advice how to do this, either in a washing machine or by soaking in a bath?
I am cursed with a plastic avocado bath and much as I dislike its colour, don't want to ruin it. Would bleach do this if I soaked the sheets in it?

Ecover laundry bleach should be OK and you should be able to use it the bath as it's a natural biodegradable product..You may have to soak and wash them several times though.
The only other thing would be to use Dylon as Boo suggests in the washing machine ..They do a colour stripper.

I have just dyed a load of hand towels pink - yes pink and on purpose, they look FAB! Just goe to Woolworths and get the dye that you use in washing machine, I think the make is, erm, its on the tip of my tounge, something like Dylon, gosh, I can't remember, how annoying. Anyway, you just add that and plenty of salt - all is explained on the packet of dye. It really works and you can get lots of different colours.

Thanks ShaneyStar. I didn't realise that such a product existed. It seems just what I need and I'll give it a try. I was a little worried that bleach was probably not the most suitable product but I really couldn't face using bright yellow sheets, even if they were free and good quality. Didn't want to wake up every morning feeling I'd developed a case of yellow jaundice !
