Matching nail varnish???

I'm going to a pretty exclusive cocktail party and will be wearing a knee-length black 'lingerie-like' baby-doll cocktail dress with strappy heels. I was just wondering what colour nail varnish I should wear as I assume my fingernails would have to match my toenails. Being a black dress, I thought that red toenails would look nice, but I prefer my fingernails to look natural as they are naturally long and well-groomed anyway.

I was told by a fashion photographer friend of mine that it should really match my lipstick.... which should be natural as I wear smokey eye-makeup... aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!

Would it look scruffy if I mixed-and-matched?!

Any ideas? Thanks! X

God don't you hate this time of the year with all this stuff!!

I don't think that fingers and toes have to match but only if your fingers are french polished, ir fingers french and toes red. but not fingers brown and toes red

As for make up - personally I would go with whatever you feel comfortable in, lets face it its gonna be semi dark and after a few wines noone will notice!!
i would probably got for french polished, for a nice nautral look, or maybe for a bit of shine and contrast silver could look quite nice i guess, just to look a bit different

smokey eyes, subtle red lip stain, deep red nails but with a clear half moon at the base (like Dita von Teese) and deep red toes to match.
