hair dye
Has anyone tried 'Special Effects' hair dye? It has really bright intense colours - the sort you see Goths with eg Pink, Purple, Orange, Blue, Green. My daughter has bought one called 'Pimpin Purple' and is trying to persuade me to share it as she won't need it all. Would like to but not sure. Maybe just a few curls?....or the tips?...Would appreciate any opinions anyone may have....Ta

I have dark brown hair, just past my shoulders and layered around the front - I've been using those kits with the highlights in but I've just gone back to dark brown ready to get some Deep red flashes running through the front. - If it doesn't suit you you can always buy a dye similar to your own colour and go over it. - you only live once! :)
Does this work on previously dyed hair? Doesn't your hair need to be stripped of previous colour or bleached first? Just curious as I've seen these Special Effects hair dye and been tempted myself, but because I already dye my hair (Chocolate Cherry colour) and I don't want to start bleaching it, I've never bought them. How long do they last?
You will need to lift the colour of your hair first and to be honest, they do not last long!
The best thing to do is to go to a salon that uses wella products and ask them to use Magma on your hair and tell them the colour that you would like.....they in turn will show you a chart and discuss the shade, depth, tone etc.
The colour you buy on/in a packet, bottle or box is never the colour it goes on due to the fact that the base colour is never the exact same!
Colour revolves around Depth, Tone and the Porosity of the hair!
Have fun!

be really careful using products like these and doing it yourself.. i have used similar thing to do bits of my hair blue - and no matter how careful i was the dye went everywhere.. and when it rained the colour ran :-( - not brilliant!!
I had dyed my hair to a blonde colour - i have natural dark brown hair - and it didnt last long at all the colour stayed good for around a day or two before it started to fade and went a funny colour, so had to dye over it with a darker colour.
im always doing stuff to my hair, but wouldnt do that again.
if you want bits of colour Swarzkopf have started doing highlight kits in purple which seem a better deal, might need a friend to help you though. Or just go to the hairdressers!!
What i have done before is when i had blonde hair, i got a semi permanant deep red/purple colour dye by something like herbal essence and just dyed the underneath (tying the top bit up and clipping it) - i found this worked much better - as if you try do highlights yourself the colour will most likely get onto other bits unless you use a cap.
hope this helps x
