Fake Tan

I am applying fake tan to myself all over for the first time norally i will get a spray tan or just apply it to my legs), and i am just wondering if anyones could suggest a few good brands, i prefer ones that tan within approx 30mins if possible and also could you advise me whether i should apply it like everywhere or just ther bits that people can see??? Help!

I apply tan every week. I use piz buin cream or ambre solaire, they are both betwen 8 and 12 pounds a bottle, but it lasts a while.
I apply moisturiser to my feet and elbows to start then I work the tan from the bottom upwards.. legs. back. front, face then arms and hands.
Make sure you really rub it in and I find it better to apply slightly too much rather than not enough as that is when you can get patchy bits.
Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards and then moisurise them before sweeping a little bit of the tan over the back of your hands.
Practice makes perfect. people blame orange hands on bad tanning cream but it isn't, it is because people do not wash them properly.
I tend to apply mine about 1 hour before I go to bed so that in the morning I can shower and smother on moisturiser.

thanks for that Kitty1981, is the piz buin/ambre solaire cream you use the gradual tan or does it devlop in a few hours?

it starts to develop after about an hour but it is best left on all night. i tend to either put it on the night before i am going out or early afternoon on the day. I think it takes about 4-5 hours to develop proplerly. If it is not dark enough for you then you can always reapply it. They come in MID and MAX. I prefer the mid as the max can look a bit too dark

Kitty's advice is spot on. If you are a bit unsure it's worth using one of the lighter tanning lotions first (like Johnson's holiday skin etc) just to get used to applying it without running the risk of big streaks. I've tested loads of tanning lotions (I'm a beauty editor on a paper) and my favourite for streak-free application and a light tan is - believe it or not - Asda own brand Sun System Self Tan (the aftersun with a hint of tanning lotion is also great - as good as Johnson's Holiday Skin). For a deeper (and longer lasting) tan St Tropez came out top. Many brands claim to give you a tan in superfast time (which seems to be what you are looking for) but I've never found any that live up to the 'tan in under and hour' claim. Most develop in around four hours and even then don't become deep and golden until a few hours later (overnight is best). And, as Kitty says, don't be afraid to put a good amount on - just make sure you rub it in well (as you would with moisturiser). Also, if exfoliating beforehand be careful of the nylon shower puffs that most of us use - although they apear to get your skin smooth they exfoliate unevenly, which can result in streaks when you fake tan. The best thing to use is a good old-fashioned face cloth - the dead skin cells will come off more evenly and give a good base for your fake tan. A final tip - use rubber or plastic gloves (you can get them from Boots or reuse the ones you get with hair dye) so that you can focus on getting your tan even and well rubbed in without ending up with orange palms. I like Fake Bake and St Tropez mousse, they are a browner colour than some others, different ones will suit different skins, but I found Piz Buin too orange for my skin tone.

The St Tropez comes out like a mousse which you rub in in circular motions over your skin, it is slightly tinted so you can see where you are putting it.

The Fake Bake (my favourite) is like a thick chocolate sauce which you apply all over, then go to bed on old or dark coloured sheets (dont try and rub it in cos it doesnt rub in). Shower when you wake up in the morning and all the excess washes off leaving you with a very even tan - it is virtually impossible to streak!

In both cases make sure you wear thin gloves during application!

I've been using Delial for years and years, and it never streaks, but I did try Ambre Solair spray and it streaked and look awful, there was even a thread on here with lots of us saying how it was so bad.
