Special Effects hair dye

Anyone out there use Special Effects hair dye and know any tips for stopping the constant colour bleed? I use Blood Red and despite the fantastic colour, it's like no other hair dye I've ever used. Even 6 weeks after dyeing my hair, the colour is still coming out on everything - hands, neck, ears, forehead, pillows, towels, clothes and then onto doors, lightswitches, desks and papers from my fingers. Someone recommended cold rinsing which didn't help and I am becoming desperate - it's so inconvenient and I'm sick of looking in mirrors and seeing that my neck or forehead is pink again. Any help much appreciated!!

try a different hair dye!? i used to have bright red hair and used Fudge hair colours. really good bright red colours and after the first wash it didn't run.

I did used to use Fudge but found all their reds to be too pinky or too orangey. Special effects gives the exact dark red I have been searching for and thats why I'm so reluctant to stop using it despite its problems.

you can mix your own with fudge though - maybe adding blue or black to the red...?

is it a parminant hair dye? they should have a contact number or address, ring them or write to them asking them, they would be the best people to answer your question, if they cant help you kick up a fuss and maybe they'll give you a refund or free stuff?

It's meant to be semi-permanent but like all dyes, it depends on the porosity of your hair how long it lasts, and mine is pretty porous from years of bleaching and dyeing. As it's an American brand getting in touch with them might be tricky, and if I do I suspect they'll just use the get-out that the bottle says 'may stain'.

American, hmmm, might be tricky then, how much are you willing to spend? if its not permintant, its likly to keep coming off, i used to use one simular, and it never stayed on. If your willing to spend money, go have a chat with your hair dresser and bring along the stuff you use, they might be able to match the colour? worth a try?

Unfortunately i can't afford to get it done at a hairdressers as I need to bleach and then dye it every 3 months minimum. It isn't that the colour fades on my hair, it actually maintains the original colour a lot better than Fudge used to do, it's just that it also comes off on everything. It does actually seem to be improving a bit this week but it'll need doing again in 6wks...

I use manic panic and they recommend rinsing with white vinegar after you shampoo to adjust the hairs ph and make it penetrate better. I did it, and it made a huge difference. It's worth a shot if you really love your color!

I have used one of the special effects red (and also a blue) and it bleads a lot, that is true. They recommend rinsing like once or twice, but I normally spend like a good halfhour int he shower, repeatedly rinsing it. However, in order to not lose all color, I recommend not using shampoo, and instead using a good conditioner to lock the color in there. This goes for every time I was it pretty much, and that preserves the color pretty well. Have not tried the vinegar...

I am in the process of trying to get a red at the mo, i bleached out black dyed hair, got it to a light blondey ginger,put an igora red concentrate on top- and it turned out very bad! its an apricot blonde, im now looking for a good red- similar to Jane goldman's,poisen ivy etc- a real red, if your hair colour stabilized, or anyone has advice please help!

Try rinsing with white vinegar after dyeing and after the first few shampoos. Also be sure your hair is not conditioned or oily before dyeing. The more porus and dry your hair is the better the dye will take to it. Vinegar helps set the dye and keep it from running.

I know just what your talking about. I used the same dye, same color, and it got everywhere. On my pillow, cloths, sheets. And my bathroom was even worst. This dye will stay on anything but your hair!

Thats so weird.. Special Effects is the only hair dye i've found that DOESN"T bleed... are you sure that when you rinse it the water runs clear? if not then I suggest you try that... it also could be the shampoo you are using. Also make sure that you are always going to bed with dry hair or anything like that.

I have noticed that the red always bleeds more then the other colors. i myself use the blue colors that most but i have used that color or red and purple. so what i do to decrease the amount of bleeding is to not shampoo hair or if you do try and only do the rootsof your hair. Also use Dove brand volumising color shampoo and conditioner. for some reasone that stuff works the best. i haven't colored my hair in almost 3 months and the color is still very true my roots are starting to show through. so thy that i have good luck.
