I am aged 20 and have a 34A bust. I suffer a lot with my confidence as a result of my small chest, dont feel feminine, hate looking at myself in the mirror etc. I went to see my GP when I was 17 to ask for advice and perhaps to get a breast enlargement on the NHS, My GP didnt take me seriously at all and I felt like he dismissed my problem completely.

Almost three years have now passed and my bust has not changed at all and is still causing the same (if not more) problems for me. Im now in a relationship and am finding my body confidence problems are having an effect. I'm considering going back to my GP surgery and maybe talking to a lady doctor who may be more sympathetic? After being dismissed the first time Im nervous about going back and wonder whether im just wasting my time?

I was just wondering if anyone had had a breast enlargement on the NHS? Whether this is a feasible route to be taking or whether I'm just wasting my time? Any advice would be really appreciated!

The NHS is incredibly short of funds to the point that the elderly ill are being allowed to die because it is cheaper than treating them, and some children are not getting the drugs or treatment they need for their critical illnesses.

I think that most breast enhancement operations are obvious and look unnatural.

Work on your self-esteem and self-confidence. If you really must have this totally unnecessary operation, start saving. Don't expect the tax payer to pay for it.

I think I also saw an article about surgery free breast enlargement. This one was temporary, they injected fillers into the breast tissue. There is also the Bravia technique, where suction cups are worn for several hours per day, at night. This method is cheaper, but increase is only up to a cup size.

If you can't have the surgery done on the NHS and really want it, then most clinics provide financing for the surgery, so you can pay in installments. Always check out your surgeon is a FRCS, (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons), don't just select a company you may see advertised in magazines etc.

Hey Rafferty,

I felt exactly the same at your age but knew I could not afford to have a boob job. The boobie fairy appeared when my first child was born, C cup, how happy was I!

They didn't stay long! I always wanted a boob job but never thought I would be able to afford it.

I had a boob job 3 years ago and I love them.

I did it for me because I had wanted it for 20 years or so and I knew it wasn't because of the fact that boob jobs are now so common.

It depends how you feel inside. It is unlikely you will get it on the NHS. Save for it, that way you will know it's what you really want, rather than a holiday for example.

The first doctor, a woman, who I spoke to had no empathy whatever but then she had large boobs! She went on about self esteem lah lah.

If you want a breast augmentation operation then you should pay for it yourself. I am also a 34A and have been for most of my teen/adult life apart from during pregnancy.It has affected my confidence too.I would love bigger boobs but would never expect the tax payer to foot the bill for them.

Although I empathise with your lack of confidence, you should try and think about your shape positively.

A lot of women who have larger breasts curse them because they are uncomfortable, clothes never fit properly, men oggle them, and so on.

As a slim woman, the fashion world is your oyster, you can wear stunning clothes that emphasise you - and believe me, men will notice you!

Thousands of men either don't especialy go for bigger breasts, or like me, really don;t care, it's the person they arew interested in.

I understand that you think your confidence would improve with bigger breasts, but if you shine through as you are, you'll find that everyone accepts your shape, and you will too.

I cannot see any justification for the NHS to pay for any boob jobs.

I agree too, I think cosmetic surgery is personal choice and should be paid for by the patient.

As a red bloodied male, I love breast's.
I love NATURAL breast's.
Silicon breast's are a real turn off!
I have had partners who's breast's are like fried eggs and who's breast's are HUGE!
I love them all.
I hope they love me

So DAFFY is it true that your young daughters who are pregnant/have babies are living in homes with their husbands and have mortgages paying for it themselves and not living off the taxpayer at all? or are they on council house lists - if not already in council houses?

Rafferty, I think it is not likely you will get this on the NHS. My wife is similar size to you and she wears those T-shirt bras. i kno it isn't that same but you will learn to accept them as you get a bit older.

Actually whoever you are,my daughters both have boyfriends who work and are supporting them.One rents privately and the other is in a housing association house.Neither have ever claimed benefits so don't judge.If you want to have a go at me fine but leave my kids out of it!!!

I had a boob job at the age of 21 for all the reasons you suggest. I did see my GP first not because I thought I would be able to get it done on the NHS but for a recommendation of a surgeon. I have heard of someone who did get it done for 'free' and it made me mad to be honest. I had trilucent implants first as I had wanted to avoid silicone and a few years down the line they ended up getting banned so I had to have them replaced! I now have silicone ones and they look fab (if I say so myself!) and natural, no one ever knows they are fake because they are in proportion and have been done well. The only problem now after 8 years is since having a child one has started to ripple. You can't see it only I can feel it but I do worry they are on the way out and there is no way I could afford to have them done again and god only knows what state I will look without anything! I try not to think about it. What I am trying to say is think long and hard about surgery. When I had mine done those gel filled bras etc didn't exist and I think there is so many good bras and bikinis now you don't need to have boob jobs. I am sure you don't look as bad as you feel

Housing Association homes are paid for by the taxpayer. So don't have a go at someone who wants an operation on the NHS (which they are paying into) when your own family is living off the taxpayer

Who told you that Housing Associations are paid for by the Tax Payer? There is no such thing as council housing where we live (rural Fylde) as all the housing stock was bought by a private housing association in 2000. Would you prefer they were homeless? They are tax payers themselves as their boyfriends work and pay tax and council tax.

Unless you are rafferty or know her personally you can't know whether she is a tax payer or not.Funny how I get picked on when I wasn't the first to say that it is wrong to expect the tax payer to foot the bill,I also wasn't the last but hey I guess i'm an easy target.Think what you like coward,my daughters are not living off the tax payer in any way and i'm proud of both of them.

Its not important, I think being fun loving is where its at. well... try some exercises... pressing exercises..

I understand how you feel! Small breasts can make your life very miserable, thats a fact.

Believe me, you are not the only woman with this problem. But hey, we are living in year 2010, which means you can do much more about it than you could 100 years ago!
