I like to have painted toenails (usually even when my fingernails aren't) but have vaguely heard you shouldn't do it all the time, is this right? I do sometimes leave them unpainted for a week. has anyone ever had any problem they think is from painting ther nails all the time?

actually, due to painting my toenails, the fumes from the varnish caused me to, unfortunatly halucinate i saw madeline mcann in my doorway it was a true paranormal experiance, as i fear she's dead. xxx love ya hunn
They might go a bit yellow but if you keep them painted then that's not really a problem...

Other than that, I can't think of any other reason not to. I've had mine painted for about 10 years almost continuously and lived to tell the tale!
I read somewhere that you should give them a week inbetween re-doing it. I usually give mine time in the winter when I don't show my toes. I just let it grow out. Not that it fully grows out between October-April.
Hi I have probably had permanently painted toenails for about 6 years! I've never had any probs - I always use an undercoat so as not to stain the nail. My feet look really odd to me if nails aren't painted. What kind of problems are supposed to happen?? x
I have painted my toenails for about the last 20 years. Every friday, I give myself a pedicure, take all the old stuff off and start again. I did find that my nails became stained so I started using a base coat and that kept my nails a better colour. I cannot bear to look at my feet if they are not painted. (the nails not the feet) The only time I went a week without nail varnish was when I was in hospital for an operation. the staff made me remove the polish before the operation, it is so they can see if you are suffering lack of oxygen when under anaesthetic. As soon as I was home I painted the nails immediately. I certainly do not suffer any problems from painted toe nails
Nail polish strengthens nails. Wearing trainers constantly is detriment to feet and toe-nails as the trainers make them sweat.

Hey thanks everyone great answers, I think I'm probably doing the right thing just giving my toenails a rest from tne nail varnish every now and then. I actually quite like having them unvarnished from time to time but then i get twitchy and wanna see them coloured again!!! yeah I had heard thye can go yellowish that was one of the things I worried about.

hey tamborine i was interested by yuor comment, I hadnt heard nail varnish strengthens nails, also while I do wear trainers now & then not all the time I do always wear enclosed shoes, like for work I as well as at weekends etc also I admitted in another thread i tend to have naturally sweaty smelly feet anyway so do you think my toenails will be affected in some way?
