I have a rather prominent scar on my shoulder. It is not sore but occasionally irritated by straps. Would bio-oil help diminish the scar?

it certainly helped with the scarring on my leg Charisse....it's quite expensive as I used it for a few months but there is a definite improvement....
Hi Charisse. I have found Bio-oil to be very good, all though quite expensive at 18 a small bottle, but it goes a very long way. It works on both old and new scars, I have been using it on a very old scar and it is much improved. I hope it works for you.
Maybe is it an old scar? I've got a lot of scars having had a few ops and found the best thing to put on the scar is actually coconut oil.

I have used bio oil on a few scars on my back and they have diminished but it's taken a long time.

Yo can buy some plaster type patches which help but they are quire expensive
Yes it's not bad, but needs to be used twice per day and everyday. It's not a quick fix and may take several months before an improvement is seen.

You could also try Cica Gel, which looks like a sheet of clear silicon. You cut it to the size of the scar and stick it in place (Surgical tape helps) The idea is, it will rehydrate the scar and help to flatten and make it less visible, takes several weeks to see an improvement.
If you cant find coconut oil its just as good to use coconut milk too
That's what I meant Velvetee didn't know the name. Boots were advertising 3 bottles of bio oil for the price of 2 a little while ago
can you use it for cooking if the scar dissappears before you have finished the bottle?
It is expensive I agree Cathy and I buy the 200ml bottle for 19.95. I probably get through two bottles per month, as I use it daily and have been rubbing it into my baby bump, although I began to develop stretch marks at about 28 weeks into pregnancy.

I've tried Cica Gel, it was ok, but a chore to keep applying a new piece and washing the pieces etc, plus if the strips weren't attached securely with tape (they're meant to be self adhesive) then I'd lose them at night in bed etc.
Fartypants you are mistaken - coconut milk is useless in this respect.

It is a very old scar, burn scald at 9 years old. I have seen the recent advertising campaign and it looks good. I shall buy some, thank you.

Velvetee if you are still reading this, I owe you a very overdue apology. I hope that you can forgive me. Charisse.
I have an old scar. the bio oil improved it, wouldn't say that it disappeared though.
Yes Charisse give it a go as some of my scars are nearly 28 years old and they have faded.

Thank you. I realise that my scar will not go away however I would like it to be less prominent.
You could use pure Vitamin E oil...which is probably the main ingrediant in Bio Oil for replenishing moisture in the skin. Vitamin E oil has been used for years to help in skin healing. It is also considerably cheaper. I saw some scars improve quite a bit within a month....and not much is needed.
You can find it in Holland & Barrett.
I was chatting to a friend yesterday and she suggested rescue oil it's made by Healthpoint and you can buy it in many supermarkets. She said she's used on her scar and it's as good as bio oil at half the price.

It's the same colour as bio oil and in a similar shaped bottle. Haven't used it myself so can't confirm but thought I'd pass the information on.
I have heard almond oil is good for healing scars up kim bobo
