I would like to share this story and its happy ending

Roma the brilliant shar pei rescue lady got a call from a dog warden over the New Year to say they had a blind shar pei whose owner threw it out over xmas and the dog was going to be put down the next day, Roma swung into action and as hubby [ who is blind] and myself were the nearest volunteers could we take it whilst she found a new home of course we said yes and the dog warden brought to my door a really timid sweet dog with no name no collar no lead, we called him Oliver after my grandad and he didnt bark once, he had cataracts but must have been able to make out light and dark as he didnt bump into much and soon found his way into the garden, he cried during the night to go out and obviously couldnt find the dog flap but he didnt make a mess in the house, we fell in love but unfortunately our older shar pei did not and kept biting him so we had to keep them apart, next day Roma rang to say she had found him a home with a nice lady who already had two shar peis but her third had died four months ago, so we took him from Essex to Kent, stopping on the way to buy him a nice collar & lead so he didnt look unwanted, the lady/ his new mum was lovely and she had a big house and big garden so we were happy to see him go to a good home.
How can people have a dog for 7 years and then discard just because he couldnt see anymore, I hope one day this previous owner doesnt loose her eyesight and get discarded too.

that is sad one of my cats was blind but would follow me into the garden and on warm day would love love to sit in the grass.so long as i called is name to let him know i was watching him he would sit there all day.

Aww what a lovely ending to what was orignally a sad story.

Like you, I can't comprehend how anyone could have a dog, with it being a member of a family for 7 years, then literally throw it out when it seemed to become "a bit of a bother"

Do they know who the previous owner was? Will she face repercussions?

I hope Oliver (is he keeping that name?) settles into his new home and lives a very quiet uneventual life :-)

Oliver has now been gone from our house for 7 days, will contact the new owner today, didnt want to crowd her and ask and do another post later, thanks for asking, at least you know that everyone in this world isnt cruel and heartless.

I agree with you Brenda. This story with a happy ending has made tears come to my eyes.

I hope such people that throw their pets out get the same treatment from their family when they get old and frail. No-one would want to take them in though!!!!

Great and happy story Dee SA - just goes to hammer home the need for people like yourselves to get involved with animal rescue instead of paying lip service to it. You don't have to become fosterer if it doesn't suit your life style but a bit of fund raising always helps and is most gratefully received by animal charities. Just do a bit of research and pick one whose ethics you agree with then get out there and do something. Really great story, although I'm sure you don't expect a pat on the back - well done you! go well

I am just happy to help, the real person to thank is Roma Brooks of Shar pei rescue and welfare, take a look at her web site when you have some spare time and she does all this voluntary, one day with help she rescued 7 shar peis in one day and had them all safely delivered to their new homes, unfortunately once these dogs stop being cute and grow into their wrinkles these lovely animals are no longer a fashion accessory and get tossed aside, in our modern world where most things are disposable.Thanks to all for the kind responses.

Poor little soul.
I hate people sometimes for the way they treat not just animals but each other.
At least this lovely soul has a lovely place to live with a lady who can restore your faith in human nature.
As pointed out lets hope it's ex owner doesn't go blind one day and gets cast aside.
But a part of me hopes they do and then they will know what it feels like to be alone.
